This policy explains how GAWKIN handles personal information when you visit gawk.in, create a store, or shop in a store that runs on GAWKIN. We follow the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and other Indian laws that apply.
Two kinds of information
Store owners' information. When you create a store, GAWKIN decides how this information is used and is responsible for it.
Shoppers' information. When someone shops in a GAWKIN store, the store owner decides how their information is used. GAWKIN processes it on the store owner's behalf to run the store. Shoppers with questions about their data should contact the store first; we will help the store answer.
What we collect
From store owners
- Account details: name, email address and an encrypted (hashed) password.
- Store details: store name, address, contact details, settings, and the products, photos and pages you add.
- Plan and billing records.
From shoppers, on behalf of stores
- Order details: name, phone number, email (optional), delivery address and what was ordered.
- Optional account details, if a shopper creates one: name, phone, email and a hashed password.
From everyone
- Basic technical information our servers record to keep the service working and secure, such as IP address and browser type.
How we use it
- To provide, secure and improve GAWKIN and the stores running on it.
- To let stores receive, fulfil and support their orders.
- To contact store owners about their account, the service, or changes to our terms.
- To prevent fraud and abuse, such as by limiting repeated sign-in attempts.
- To meet legal obligations.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use shoppers' information to advertise to them.
Cookies
We use only the cookies a store needs to work: one that keeps your cart and sign-in, and one that protects forms from abuse. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Who we share it with
- The store you shop with receives your order details so it can deliver your order.
- Service providers who host our servers, database and files (product photos are stored with a cloud storage provider in India). They may only use the information to provide their service to us.
- Authorities, when the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep account and store information while the store is open. When a store is deleted, its products, customers and orders are deleted with it, except where we must keep records for legal or tax reasons.
How we protect it
All traffic is encrypted with HTTPS, passwords are stored using modern one-way hashing, and access to systems is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you and the authorities of a breach as the law requires.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct or delete your personal information, or withdraw consent where we rely on it. Store owners can change most details in their dashboard. For anything else, email support@gawk.in and we will respond within the time the law requires.
Children
GAWKIN is not meant for children, and store owners must be adults. We do not knowingly collect children's information.
Changes
We may update this policy and will show the date of the latest change at the top. Significant changes will be shared with store owners by email or in their dashboard.
